At the suggestion of a young, inspiring student – Lauren Taylor -- at Sacramento Country Day School, Sekula's Fine Art & Antiques and Artist Kevin Courter have joined forces in an effort to help raise funds to support the Rulindo School in Rwanda. Sekula's is presenting an art opening and show of Kevin Courter’s work titled "Visions of New York and Central Park." The show will run from May 8 - June 8, 2010 with an artist reception on Saturday May 8, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. A percentage of the proceeds will go to the Rulindo School to help with the education, supplies and desperately needed improvements. Please join us for light refreshments and a viewing of this unique and beautiful show. Wine tasting will be provided by Prohibition Wine Club & Speakeasy in Healdsburg.
In 2006, Sacramento Country Day School formed an official partnership with the Rulindo School, located in Rwanda. Since the country’s 1994 genocide, poverty has become a way of life and education has become rare. Sixty-five of the school’s students live in extreme poverty and another 35 are not able to pay the full tuition of $200. But since 2006, the students in need have received scholarships. For all students, uniforms have been provided, food has been paid for, bathrooms have been improved, a water tap has been installed, and other improvements have been made using the $33,000 that has been raised since 2006. Yet there is much that needs to be done—a hundred-year-old roof needs repairing, improvements need to be made in pavement and bunk beds, and an electric generator and more computers are needed. Though the improvements will take time and the school’s needs are continually changing, the students and faculty of the Rulindo School appreciate any and every contribution.
